5 STAR DPS Level II Non-Commissioned Security Officer Training, Testing, & Application Resources
Information on obtaining a Level II Non-Commissioned (Unarmed) Security License:
5 STAR Event Services is licensed to provide security in the state of Texas by the Texas Department of Public Safety – Private Security Bureau. In order to work a security position, you need to complete the training course, pass the exam, and apply for a security officer card issued by the State of Texas. DPS charges $65.25, and the license is good for two years. Additionally, there is a $10 fee that will be paid directly to DPS at the time of your fingerprints for a criminal background check.

EMPLOYEE REGISTRATION UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS:
An individual licensee may update (add an employer) his or her individual license from one employer to another no later than the 14th day after the individual license holder begins new employment.
If you already have a valid security license through another security company and also work for 5 STAR, you’ll need to submit a Registration Update to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Add an Employer/Registration Update InstructionsSECURITY LICENSE RENEWAL INSTRUCTIONS:
Security Licenses are renewed every two years based on the date yours was issued. Licenses become renewable 90 days before they expire.
If the license has been expired for more than one year, the license cannot be updated or renewed, and an original application must be submitted
The renewal must be initiated by the license holder; however, the payment may be made by the individual or the employer they are registered with.

If you already have an active (non-expired) security license and need to change your address, you can do so at any time at no charge.
If you need to request a duplicate pocket card, it is recommended you update your address before making your request. The Department of Public Safety charges a fee of $17 for a duplicate pocket card.
